Habitat Restoration at Work
Voluntary Agreements include significant guaranteed funding for habitat restoration projects, which are essential to any effort intended to help struggling salmon and steelhead populations. Many of these similar projects are already in place and producing positive results. More are planned through Voluntary Agreements, which would provide for the restoration of 60,000 acres of habitat for fish and wildlife. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Framework for Voluntary Agreements released earlier this year supports the concept of Voluntary Agreements, identifying them as a way to advance his goal to double California salmon populations by 2050. This puts a target date on what is known as the Doubling Objective for Salmon.
